Two died, 20 injured in car accident in Buthidaung

Buthidaung, Arakan State:  Two Rohingya men were killed and injured 20 others, of whom some were critical situation, while going to Nahong, Naha from Taung Bazar after crossing the Kalama Taung (Mountain) near Bangladesh border on February 9, by a truck, said  Nunu ( not real name) from Taung Bazar.   “On that day, in the morning, after loading 30 Rohingya people by a truck from Taung Bazar of Buthidaung Township were going to Bangladesh border nearby Nahong, Nahong from Burma side. There are many army camps and also GE members have been working for erecting barbed wire pillars along the Burma-Bangladesh border.”

GE (Construction Engineering Battalion) members need Laborers to work in pillars erecting in border areas, so that they can recruit workers from Buthidaung Township, especially from Taung Bazar, Paungdaw Pyin and Maung Nama village tracts (Buthidaung east). The recruiting 30 workers were from Khor Mura Para of Paungdaw Pyin village tract and Sin Gri Taung of Maung Nama village tract said another village elder from the locality.

After loading the workers, a Rakhine driver started the truck and was going to their destination.  However, they met an accident near Kalama Taung and the truck suddenly made into turtle where two workers were killed on the spot and 20 others were injured, of them, some were serious condition. But the driver was escaped from any injury, the village elder more added quoting the some injured people.

The dead body was identified as one from Khor Mura Para (village) and another one is from Sin Gri Taung, he added.

The dead bodies and injured workers were immediately brought to Buthidaung general hospital for autopsy and medical treatment. But, it is not available, how many people have been died in the hospital, according to a boat passenger.

The GE army paid Kyat 3,000 per worker per day. So many Rohingya people who are very poor can get works in pillars erection along the Burma-Bangladesh Border, one of the workers who had been worked earlier in erecting barbed wire pillars in border areas.

What is the fate of the family members who was included in the death or injured list. It is not confirmed whether the government would gave some compensation to the family members, the worker more said.

The road— Taung Bazar to Nahon, Nahong (near Bangladesh border) is very rough, and it is not possible in rainy season. It is only workable in summer season.
