Report blasts Myanmar treatment of Rohingya

Rights group says military conducted vicious crackdown on stateless Muslim group in aftermath of sectarian violence. Myanmar security forces have killed, raped or carried out mass arrests of Rohingya Muslims after deadly sectarian riots in the northeast in June, a rights group has said, adding the authorities had done little to prevent the initial unrest.

BROUK has received reliable information that the Burmese authorities have tried to deceive UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Mr Tomas Ojea Quintana during his visit to Arakan  State . This morning BROUK received the following information from the ground: The Maungdaw authorities dressed some Hindu youths as Rohingya religious students with Islamic Molvi dress to meet the delegations where they explained about the situation of Rohingya life, in line with the authorities’ wishes. All the Hindu youths are from Shwezarr village tract, Maungdaw.

Qatar Charity pushes relief effort for Myanmar’s Rohingya Muslims

Malaysia’s Rohingyas protest violence in Myanmar.  DUBAI: Qatar  Charity  on Tuesday announced the beginning of a relief campaign for the Muslims of Myanmar under the slogan “Burma … Till pain goes away.” CEO of Qatar Charity Yousef Ahmed al-Kuwari said that the campaign aims to “provide emergency relief and humanitarian aid to Rohingya Muslims who face real challenges in their country.”

Over 1180 Rohingyas flee from Anuk Pyin village, Rathedaung

Rathedaung, Arakan State: over 1180 Rohingyas including womenand children fled from Anuk Pyin Village of Rathedaug Township since June 19, 2012, according to an elder from said village. “It is situated at the eastern bank of Mayu River of Rathedaung Township and has 1000 houses. Before torching this village on June 19, Moghs  from nearby villages gave threatening to the Rohingya villagers to relocate them from the village. But, the Rohingya villagers decided to protect their villages until to death.”

Burma gov’t failed to prevent Arakan violence: HRW

(Reuters) The Burmese government could have prevented the recent sectarian violence in Arakan state, which killed at least 78 people and displaced 100,000, but instead stood by and watched abuses perpetrated against both Arakanese and Rohingya communities, according to Human Rights Watch (HRW).

Breaking News Arakan, Burma  Wednesday, August 1, 2012 "Yesterday, Mr. Quintana could not visit Buthidaung. The Army Intelligence ( Sarapa ) trickfully, took him again to Muangdaw South, Charkumba village near Alethengyaw to show Natala village and meet Buddhist Rakhines and Monks instead of real victims. It was because Mr. Quintana planned to visit Buthidaung Jail yesterday to meet the Rohingyas arrested by the security forces during the riot. Shockingly, last night, all the Rohingyas from Buthidaung Jail were shifted to another place and kept them in a Godown. Today, Mr. Quintana again arrived Buthidaung from Akyab. And we are looking forward to more news.
