Myanmar’s upcoming census could spark anti-Muslim violence

Rights groups fear that an upcoming census could spark further violence.   (ATAR/AFP/Getty Images) By  Patrick Winn  Global Post    March 5, 2014 BANGKOK — Decades of dictatorship in Myanmar produced a deep catalogue of casualties: slain dissidents, land mine victims and economic ruin, to name a few. Rohingya activist: Americans, say 'yes' to House Resolution 418

Commentary: We are not permitted to access health care because we are Rohingya. We are banned from civil servant jobs. We   are not allowed to marry without permission. Here's what you can do. A man left blind in one eye after being beaten while working as a forced laborer. Two young children sifting through rubble to find anything they can sell. ...

Bangladesh’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dipu Moni, made the declaration to the House of the Nation—the country's supreme legislative body—on Thursday, saying that the “infiltration” had put pressure on Bangladesh, and so the government would take legal actions against any “illegal infiltrators and those giving them shelter.” “Given the recent unstable situation in the Rakhine state, the foreign ministry has adopted measures to immediately seal off the Myanmar border to stop the infiltration of the Myanmar nationals for national interests,” Moni told parliament. She said the government h...
