The message of Azad Maidan

What happened on 11th August at Azad Maidan in Mumbai must be condemned by all in the strongest words. Such incidents can’t be tolerated in any circumstances. The way Muslim youths vented their anger on media and police personnel can’t be justified at all. More than 45 police men were injured and most of the OB vans of TV channels present there were damaged or set on fire by angry youths. They were angry with the blackout of media coverage of the killings of Muslims in Myanmar and Assam.

Silence over Rohingya persecution?

Ethnic or religious minorities are being discriminated and persecuted all over the world. Methods of persecution are different in developed anddeveloping countries. Developed countries ban wearing of Hijabs or construction of minarets while in developing countries minorities face hostility and discrimination and acts of violence are committed against them by the majority population. If we specifically talk about South Asian region that is home to 1/5th of world’s population, the issue of minorities has remained neglected and has not been given such importance as it deserves. Close at home persecution of minorities is growing and the victims include not only Hindus and Christians but religious sects also.

By Dr. Habib Siddiqui As a conscientious global citizen of our planet, I have been writing for the past 32 years since my days as a university student on a plethora of issues, which include history, culture and civilization of the peoples of the South Asia and the Middle East. I have also studied and written on international politics, human rights and terrorism. In my decades of studies I have not found a people that are more persecuted than the Rohingyas of Myanmar, or what used to be called Burma.
