Two Houses in Buthidaung Terroirzed by Rakhines

Qutub Shah RB News   January 23, 2013 (Edited by Mayu Thitsar) Buthidaung: Yesterday in Ward No. 1, Buthidaung Township, some Rakhine extremists terrorized two Rohingya families of Maulavi Noor Muhammed and Shuna Alee s/o Yusuf from the very ward at around 7:00pm under the pretext of electrical disturbance. They beat the family members and looted the valuables.

Villager arrested for guest receiving at his house in Maungdaw

                                     Photo Myanmar UNDP   Northern Rakhine State   Maungdaw, Arakan State:  A villager was arrested and extorted money by Burma’s border security force ( Nasaka)  for receiving a guest in his house today, said a close relative of the victim.   “ The victim is identified as Sayed Hussain (50), son of Zar Muluk, hailed from Maung Nama village under Nasaka Headquarters (Kawar Bill) of Maungdaw Township.” 

Police assure non-involvement in Rohingya trafficking ring

By Digital Media BANGKOK, Jan 23 – A senior police officer today flatly ruled out any police involvement in the trafficking of ethnic Rohingya migrants into Thailand. National police spokesman Piya Utayo made the statement on the heels of a recent report that Thai military officers were implicated in smuggling Rohingya migrants from Myanmar via the South of Thailand.

Facing difficult to cut thatches in Maungdaw south

Mountain of Arakan State, photo flickr Maungdaw, Arakan State: Rohingya community have been facing difficult to cut thatches from the mountain side for fearing of harass by Rakhines – news settler – living near the mountain side, said a farmer on condition of anonymity. “There are some thatch fields in the mountains side which Rohingya community use for roping their homes to protect rain drop in the rainy season.”
