President creates interim press council

(Reuters) An interim press council will form in June following a presidential order aimed at dealing with media regulations before the country’s new media law is adopted. Government’s Information Minister Kyaw Hsan instructed representatives from several independent press associations to nominate six people each from their organisations to participate in the new council.

(PHOTO: Reuters) Burma’s President Thein Sein has announced that the country will seek to restore its membership with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The decision was confirmed during an official visit by UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai earlier this month.

Two communities, two law in one city

Maungdaw, Arakan State: A sole agent for wheel taxes is playing between two communities with two types of law for collecting wheel taxes in Maungdaw, said a vehicle owner from Maungdaw. “U Kyaw Zaw- a former intelligent serviceman from Khin Nyunt period- is a Rakhine community and the sole agent of Maungdaw to collect wheel tax from transport vehicle.”

Thein Sein as Nobel Peace Prize candidate?

( Mizzima   ) – It may sound far-fetched when looking at Burma’s history, but some analysts are saying Burmese President Thein Sein is in a position to become a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize if he is successful in ending all ethnic conflicts and moving the country into the ranks of democratic nations.
