MMEA Arrest 128 Rohingya Boat People In Langkawi Waters

The MMEA had arrested 128 Rohingya people in Langkawi waters some 5 nautical miles from Pulau Rebak on December 24.  The group include 4 women and 9 children. The arrest was made by an MMEA patrol boat at around 1700H. The coast guards on board the patrol boat became suspicious when they saw a cargo boat here in the local waters. The boat people were then taken to Bukit Malut jetty for further investigation.

Suu Kyi offers help on Rohingya issue

BD News24 Sujit: Kolkata, Dec 26 (bdnews24.com) - Myanmar's democracy icon Aung Sang Suu Kyi has told a British minister that she is willing to facilitate the process of reconciliation between Buddhist Rakhines and Muslim Rohingyas in the troubled Rakhine state (former Arakans), the 'Guardian' reports.  The Guardian quotes Hugo Swire, a minister of state in the British Foreign office as saying that Suu Kyi, if invited by the Myanmar government, is willing to help.This after Swire met Suu Kyi briefly during his recent visit to Myanmar. 

Couple arrested for marriage after 14 years in Mangdaw

Maungdaw, Arakan State:   A couple was arrested by Nasaka (Burma’s border security force) at Maungdaw north on December 21, over the allegation that he had married without permission from the concerned authority after 14 years later, according to a friend of the victim. “The victims are identified as Shoffi Ullah (37), and his wife Ms Jubaida Khatun (30). Both of them belong to Maung Nama Aley Wra (village) of Maungdaw north.  Mohammad Sidique is the father of Shoffi Ullah.”
