Letter from Rohingya Mohiuddin Yusof, the president of New York based Rohingya Concern International (RCI) has urged the worldwide Rohingya people – organizations and leaders – to pledge which will never allow anybody to endanger the existence of  Rohingya community in Arakan yesterday. “Let us pledge that we will never allow anyone to endanger our existence as a moderate, tolerant and peaceful minority ethnic people in Arakan state where political choices will be made by the peaceful dialogue and reconciliation with the Rakhine community. Rohingya are a native ethnic Muslim minority from Arakan, a western state of Burma, living many centuries. Before Rohingya became the stateless in own soil, they have encountered many operations of dehumanization from various Burmese governments starting in 1963 up to now. Rohingya have lost their history, nationality, dignity, home, land, property and faced human rights abuses such as restriction on religion, marriage, education, travel, arbitrary taxation, arrest, rape, etc..  2012 has been the greatest disaster for Rohingya as Rakhine extremists and government forces launched the grass-root killing of Rohingya throughout Arakan making hundred thousands displaced, killed and missing, while the international community has been silently neglecting the suffering state of Rohingya. The Rohingya community, originally from Burma, were resettled in Carlow in June 2009 as part of the UNHCR (United Nations high commissioner for refugees) resettlement programme. The community lived in refugee camps in Bangladesh from the early 1991’s.  The Rohingyas number approximately 1.5 million and have endured continued persecution and ethnic cleansing in Burma. About 1.5 million Rohingyas have been living in exile in many countries all over the world. The Rohingyas in Burma continue to suffer from several forms of persecution and human rights violations. 25 Rohingya men and women, over a period of 6 weeks, took part in an art project focusing primarily on their culture and their journey to Ireland.
