Rohingya woman gives birth to baby boy on crowded refugee boat

Perth Now ‎  January 31, 2013 A ROHINGYA refugee gave birth to a baby boy on an overcrowded boat carrying around 110 people which arrived in Thailand from unrest-hit western Burma, an official said. The boat was sinking when it landed at Surin island off Thailand's southwestern province of Phang Nga near the border with Burma on Wednesday, a local government official told AFP. "Among them there was a new-born baby, aged around a week up to 10 days old," Manit Pienthong said.

Bangkok lobbies OIC over Rohingya

Bangkok Post: Published: 31 Jan 2013 SONGKHLA _ Thailand has lobbied the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to help tackle the problem of illegal Rohingya migrants being sheltered in the country. Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul told 15 OIC diplomats that the country needed cooperation from the Islamic body and other international organisations to end the problem.

These individuals are not fishermen, but daring souls attempting to migrate to Malaysia, seeking better jobs and a brighter future. They board fishing boats with almost no safety measures, and only a few lucky ones survive. One of those lucky ones is 16-year-old Mahbub Alam.

European Rohingya Council office in Saudi Arabia

Desk REPORT European Rohingya Council (ERC) announced opening of its office in Saudi Arabia.   In the inauguration program ERC gave reception to the Director General of Arakan Rohingya Union (ARU). The program took place in Jeddah.   Rohingya community living in Saudi Arabia warmly welcomed opening of office of ERC in Saudi Arabia. It was a significant step after a successful visit to Bangladesh by Mr. Mohammad Ibrahim, Media and Information Secretary ERC. Ceremony was organized by Saudi Rohingya community and held at Kababish  Restaurant  on January 27, 2013.
