The deceased were identified as Ali Ahmmod, 45, Abul Boshar, 30, Nurul Haque, 26, Belal, 35, Mohammad Alam, 30, and Saydul Alom, 25. Quoting witnesses, Ukhiya police station Officer-in-Charge Gias Uddin Miah said: “A Cox’s Bazar-bound public jeep, locally known as Chander Gari, collided head-on with another jeep coming from the opposite direction near Ukhiya Degree College around 8am, leaving five people dead on the spot and injuring 16 others.” Later, one person succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, police said.
