Update news of northern Arakan on August 8, 2012

Buthidaung Township:  The armies of MOC (Military Operation Command) of Buthidaung Township have been collecting big bamboos from Rohingya villagers since one week ago for construction of new Rakhine village nearby the MOC. Rohingya villagers believe that the army will invite Rakhine community from the southern side of Arakan to settle them there, said a villager on condition of anonymity.

ASEAN mulls assistance for Myanmar Rohingya

Southeast Asian nations are considering humanitarian assistance for Muslim-minority Rohingya facing "pain and suffering" in Myanmar, the head of the ASEAN regional bloc said Wednesday. Association of Southeast Asian Nations secretary general Surin Pitsuwan said the bloc should be "part of solution to the problem" that escalated in June with a bloody clash that displaced around 60,000 people, mostly Rohingya.

Iranian Parliament Urges UN to Prevent Massacre of Muslims in Myanmar

Indonesian speaker considers sending delegation to Burma

Pakistani president expresses concerns to Burma

Maungdaw Township:    A Rakhine youth son of Maung Pru from Ward number 4 organized 40 Rakhine youths from Maungdaw, threaten Rohingya village – near Shwe Tha Zine Hotel – to set on fire tonight and the Rohingyas from Muangdaw are all alert and watching the situation. The Rohingyas also informed to the authority about threaten of Rakhines, said a Rohingya from Maungdaw.
