OIC, PMI to launch humanitarian mission for Rohingya, Rakhines refugees

For peace: Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) chairman Jusuf Kalla welcomes Islamic Conference (OIC) secretary-general Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu to the PMI’s headquarters in Jakarta on Monday. Kalla and Ihsanoglu discussed a number of issues, including the Rohingya-Rakhine conflict in Myanmar, and tensions between Israel and Palestine. (JP/Jerry Adiguna)    The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) are in talks to jointly launch a humanitarian mission for refugees of the deadly conflict between the Rohingya and Rakhine ethnic groups in Myanmar.

(Photo: Reuters) The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus (AIPMC) supports the United Nations’ calls for urgent action to deliver humanitarian aid to displaced people in Burma. While expressing her appreciation of progress in Burma, AIPMC President Eva Kusuma Sundari urged the Naypyidaw government to quickly realize the recommendation in the resolution.

Expert warns of Rohingya genocide

“Warning signs” are in place for a genocide of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, an Al Jazeera investigation has been told by a leading expert in the field. According to Professor William Schabas, until recently President of the International Association of Genocide Scholars, the findings of an Al Jazeera documentary reveal that “we’re moving into a zone where the word can be used”.
