Deputy DG of BGP holds meeting at Maungdaw

Myanmar Vice President Nyan Tun (3rd L-standing) visits during a census taking at the village of Barasa in the western Myanmar state of Rakhine on March 30, 2014   By KPN News July 06, 2014   Maungdaw, Arakan State:   Deputy Director General (DDG)of Border Guard police (BGP) of Burma held a meeting at its headquarters, inviting religious and local elders from neighboring villages of police area No. 6 of Maungdaw north yesterday  for discussion about census, said  Moktar Ahmed, a participant of the meeting. In the meeting, the DDG of BGP said, “Now, we are processing only population lists, not census.  In future rebellion groups will penetrate Maungdaw, so it is very important to check the population lists and also need to deduct the death lists and to register the new born babies.”   According to a participant of the meeting, the BGP Deputy Director General asked the participants of the meeting to organize all the villagers to participate in the population list.  

Maungdaw Police Bans Rohingya Detainees from Receiving Ramadan Meals

By Rohingya Eye ׀ Maungdaw, Arakan State Rvisiontv.com July 06, 2014 Maungdaw Police has banned local Rohingya Muslims to send foods and daily meals to the Muslims detained in Maungdaw Police detention during Muslims’ fasting month, Ramadhan, according to locals of Maungdaw. Most of the Rohingya Muslim detainees have been arbitrarily arrested and in the detention without any charges and prosecutions since the violence in June 2012. “In earlier years, we were to send donated foods and meals twice daily to the Muslim detainees in Maungdaw Police Detention during Muslim Fasting Month Ramadhan. However, on June 30, deputy chief of Maungdaw Police Station, Lieutenant Myint Lwin, said that they won’t allow the detained Rohingya Muslims to receive food from outside in this year’s fasting month. The police officer said ‘no need to feed anything to them. All are criminals. If a detainee escapes meanwhile you provide them food, who will bear the responsibility for that.’

The plight of Rohingya

By The Sun Daily July 06, 2014 A RECENT documentary on CNN shows the Rohingya are discriminated, persecuted and deported by their own authorities to Bangladesh. We know Bangladesh is a poor country, with little resources to accommodate these people. They end up living in squatter camps in the most miserable conditions. They have no passports, are deemed stateless hence, have nowhere to go. The UNHRC is giving lukewarm support, with no solution in sight for these people. Since this is taking place within Asean, why is there no effort being made to address this shameful situation? Where is the moral conscience of Malaysia and Indonesia? Why are the rich Middle East countries keeping quiet? A concerned citizen
