1- Arbitrary Taxation on Rohingyas by Department of Finance and Revenue Maung Daw

Deputy Head of the Department of Finance and Revenue Maung Daw, U Khin Moe Lwin, is collecting arbitrary tax from Rohingya Businessmen, fishery owners and shop-owners. The Government of Myanmar rules that 10% income tax should be paid by the businessmen, traders, shop-owners and others. However, the deputy head is forcing Rohingyas to pay 12% income tax which is against the rule of central government.

Moreover, order from the central government of Myanmar only is only to collect income tax for this year. Despite the income tax amnesty by the central goverment for 2012 due to the violence and economic instability, U Khin Moe Lwin, is forcibly collecting income tax from Rohingyas for both 2012 and 2013 on top of the 2% extra tax charge on 10% regular income tax.

Rohingya fishery owners have to pay Kyat 10,000 (Kyat 5,000 for 2012 and Kyat 5,000 for 2013) per acre of fishery. Some of Rohingyas who were forced to pay a hiked income tax for two years are:

1- Dr Kamal (from Quarter 2, Maung Daw)

2- U Maung Nak (from Quarter 2, Maung Daw)

3- U Shwe Maung (from Quarter 2, Maung Daw)

4- U Yasein (Fayzi village, Maung Daw)

U Khin Moe Lwin, the deputy head, does not issue any receipt after collecting tax for the year of 2012.

2- Security Force Robbed a Rohingya Woman

On 29th September 2013, Hlun Htein (Security Force) stopped Laila daughter of Dil Mohammed hails from the village of Feram Furu (Pyin Phyu) while she was passing by the camp in the village. Then, the security force snatched her purse and robbed the money (i.e. Kyat 150,000) in it.

Laila is a mother of three children and her husband was forced out of the country by the authority. Therefore, she has been facing crises in her daily lives. So, she sold her land to a villager to solve her crises temporarily. But on her way back, all the money she got by selling her land was looted by the inhumane and savage security force.

3- Police Exorted Money from a Rohingya for Staying at a Relative’s

On 23rd September 2013, Lieutenant Police (or sub-inspector), Yehmuu Bo Bo, arbitrarily arrested Ali Chand S/o Lukhman (Age- 28) as he was on a visit to the house of his father-in-law to-be in the village of Summo-Inn of Keyammong (Chowen Pauk Phyo Zu) village tract, northern Maung Daw. Yehmuu Bo Bo also serves as the head of the Police Station No. 10 in the village of Zayan Khali (Zeebin Chaung) (the camp evacuated by the disbanded NaSaKa). He extorted Kyat 400, 000 from Ali Chand for his release.
