Expressing solidarity with the victims, an Indian
Muslim leader Tuesday urged the UN to play a pivotal role in stopping the
violence against Rohingya Muslims in the Rakhine state of Myanmar.
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Dr. Zafrul Islam Khan,
President of All India Muslim Majlis Mushawwarat (AIMMM) said: “The root of the
problem is the racist attitude of the government of Myanmar that does not
recognize them as its own citizen. As the result, the atrocities committed on
Rohingya Muslims seems planned, and organized. The involvement of Myanamr government
in widespread bloodshed and destruction could not be ruled out”.
Noting that the Myanmar government has systematically
persecuted the Rohingya Muslims for years, stripping them of their basic rights
and subjecting them to poverty and oppression, the AIMMM leader urged the UN to
intervene immediately and pressurize the Myanmarese government to stop the
persecution of the Rohingya minorities and to find a justice-based amicable
solution.
Zafrul further noted that it is unfortunate that the
self styled champions of human right forces always stand concerned about the
religious minorities living in Muslim countries and always ready to take
improper actions, were mute over the violence and oppression committed against
the Muslims in Myanmar.
Criticising the Suu Kyi’s silence on the plight of
Rohingya Muslims, he urged the world-known personality to break her silence on
the issue as part of her fight for democracy.
The Indian Muslim leader suggested that to save
innocent lives of Muslims in Myanmar from this heinous crime of humanity,
sanctions should be imposed on Myanmar.
Zafrul Islam also appealed to the Government of India
and Muslim countries to make use of their influence upon the Myanmar Government
to stop the killings and protect the lives and rights of Rohingya Muslims.
