Police grabbed a Rohingya and wrested money in Southern Buthidaung

On 9th March 2013 at about 5:00 pm, a group of police personnel having police officer U Kyaw Zay Ya from Nyaung Chaung Police station, Southern Buthidaung walked towards Porun Chaung village. The Burmese Authority officially announced Rohingya not to worship any prayer at Mosque. All Mosques have been locked up since last June conflict 2012 and imposed curfew not to move out from the home after 6pm.
Mohammed Yunus son of Mohammad Hasan from Porun Chaung was going to the shop to get some candles for lighting home at night. Unfortunately he met the patrolling police on the way of opposite direction; they caught him and brutally beaten with being no legal crime. They kept him in police custody and tortured severely.
 His family members contact the police via village administrator .The police officer demanded two lakh Kyat (200,000 Kyat) to get free.  His family managed one lakh Kyat (100,000 Kyat) and Village administrator guaranteed for the rest money that must pay within one month. If there is any fail to do, he will be arrested again.
 Mohammed Yunus is really a poor man and only earning person of the whole family informed by one of his relatives on phone. The remained amount will make him flee obviously or have to go jail with falsifying of police department. This is also a tactic applied to root out the Rohingya from soil of Arakan.

বাংলাদেশের আশ্রয়শিবিরে বসবাসকারী রোহিঙ্গা শরণার্থীদের কোনোই ভবিষ্যৎ নেই বলে মন্তব্য করেছেন রোহিঙ্গা বিষয়ক আইনজীবী রাজিয়া সুলতানা। তিনি এই আশ্রয়শিবিরকে চিড়িয়াখানার সঙ্গে তুলনা করেছেন এবং রোহিঙ্গাদের ফেরত পাঠানোর জন্য একটি উপযুক্ত কৌশল নির্ধারণের আহ্বান জানিয়েছেন। কয়েকদিন আগে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ওমেন অব কারেজ এওয়ার্ড (আইডব্লিউসিএ) পুরস্কার পান রাজিয়া সুলতানা। সাহসিকতা দেখানোর জন্য সারা বিশ্ব থেকে বাছাই করা ১০ জন নারীকে এ পুরস্কার দেয়া হয়।  রাজিয়া সুলতানার একটি সাক্ষাৎকার নিয়েছে বার্তা সংস্থা রয়টার্স। তাতে তিনি রোহিঙ্গাদের পরিণতি নিয়ে হতাশা প্রকাশ করেন। রাজিয়া সুলতানা বলেন, মিয়ানমারের মুসলিম সংখ্যালঘু সম্প্রদায়ের রোহিঙ্গা শরণার্থীদের মধ্যে আশার অভাব রয়েছে। ২০১৭ সালের আগস্টে মিয়ানমারের সেনাবাহিনীর নৃশংস নির্যাতনের ফলে তারা পালিয়ে এসে বাংলাদেশে আশ্রয় নিতে বাধ্য হয়। রাজিয়া সুলতানা বলেন, এই আশ্রয় শিবিরে যত বেশি সময় শরণার্থীরা থাকবেন ততই পরিস্থিতির অবনতি ঘটতে থাকবে। ওই সাক্ষাৎকারে তিনি আরো বলেন, হ্যাঁ, এ কথা সত্য যে, শরণার্থীরা খাবার পাচ্ছে। কিন...

Cease restrictions on aid to Rohingyas: HRW tells Dhaka

  Human Rights Watch (HRW) urged Bangladesh government to immediately cease its restrictions on international organisations providing aid to more than 200,000 Muslim Rohingyas in the country. It also called on the government to open its borders to Rohingyas fleeing sectarian violence and abuses by Myanmarese security forces in Arakan State in western Myanmar, said a press release of New York-based Human Rights Watch published on Wednesday.

Statement from the Bangkok Conference on the Rohingyas of Myanmar

Dr. Habib Siddiqui Myanmar (formerly Burma) is going through a deep crisis in dealing with ethnic conflicts, especially in its western Rakhine (formerly Arakan) state. To find probable solutions to the existing problems, Arakan Rohingya Organization - Japan (JARO) and Rohingya National Organization in Thailand (RNOT) jointly sponsored an International Rohingya Conference in Bangkok, Thailand. The theme of the conference was “Contemplating Burma’s Rohingya People’s Future in Reconciliation and (Democratic) Reform.”
