A ceremony to normalize the status of the Burmese community in Saudi Arabia will be held Saturday and be sponsored by Prince Khalid Al Faisal, governor of Makkah.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold the ceremony to inaugurate the establishment of the Jeddah Media Center, which is the media arm of the Arakan Rohingya Union (ARU).
Abdullah Marouf, head of the International Rohingya Center, said that the ceremony is testimony to the Kingdom’s desire to normalize the status of the Burmese community to allow the people to live in a good environment.
“Saudi Arabia works on all levels to help our people achieve their rights in going back to their homeland and regain their national identity and their constitutional rights in Myanmar,” he said.
Ma’rouf also said that the tense situation in Arakan has now reached Yangon, where many Muslims have been killed.
“These acts committed against Muslims living in Yangon are a sign of grave danger and an indication that violence is being expanded to reach the Muslim minority outside Arakan, in western Myanmar,” Ma’rouf said.
Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, the secretary general of OIC, will inaugurate the website of the center, which is the media forum dedicated to support the cause of Rohingya Muslims.
Scheduled to be at the ceremony are Ma’rouf, Waqar Ad Din, director of ARU and members of the consular corps in Jeddah and number of international organizations and members of the diplomatic corps.
