Maungdaw Arakan State: Burma’s border security force (Nasaka) recently extorted money from villagers of Maungdaw north by threatening the villages to arrest by implicating them —- receiving guests, holding mobile sets and involving in June 8 incident which was occurred at Maungdaw Town, said a local businessman who denied to be named.
“ On the nights of August 31, and September 1, a group of Nasaka led by Nasaka captain of Nari Bill out-posts camp with the collaboration of Village Chairman Kolimullah ( 35), and village Ra- Inn- Gon ( head of the 100-house) Salim Ullah went to the said village and asked the villagers to open the door. But, villagers did not open the door when they heard the voice of Nasaka. So, the Nasaka pretended as Sarapa, and the villagers opened the door at night. In such way, the Nasaka arrested the following villagers to extort money. “
The arrested villagers were identified as—Shamshul Alam ( 50), son of Osiur Rahman, hailed from Nari Bill south, Haidi Rahman ( 40), son of Sayed Hussain, hailed from Nari Bill south, Boshor ( 45), hailed from Nari wife of Mohamed Khasim, hailed from Nari Bill east, Ms Zurah (30), wife of Mohamed Siddique, hailed from Nari Bill west, Mohamed Rafique (20), son of Khbir Hussain, hailed from Nari Bill west and Haji Mohamed Shoffee (70), son of Abdul Majid, hailed from Nari Bill west.
However, they were released after taking Kyat 100.000 to 150,000 per head according to their family status, according to villagers.
Besides, the Human Trafficking Protection Department in Maungdaw Township also collecting money from the illiterate poor Rohingya villagers over the allegation that they are being implicated with human trafficking, said a local trader on condition of anonymity.
