Maungdaw, Arakan State: The Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu visited northern Arakan Yesterday (August 10) with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's wife and daughter to deliver aid, to the Rohingya Muslims and Rakhine community – victims of riot in Arakan, according to an official from Rangoon.
“Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and Emine Erdoğan, the Turkish prime minister’s wife, visited Rohingya Muslims staying in the Banduba refugee camp which one of the camp of Rohingya in the arakan State, Burma. There are more refugee Rohingya refugee camps which were not visit the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and its delegations.”
“The Burmese authority allowed the Rohingyas and the Turkish Foreign Minister with its groups was allowed to pray Juma with congregational prayers in Mosques in Akyab. It is first time for Rohingya community since June after riot.”
Apart from the United Nations, this is the first instance of foreign aid being distributed to refugees in need in the region by another nation.
Turkish Red Crescent staff stated that there are 8,532 people sheltered in the Banduba camp and that there are currently 801 tents. The Turkish Red Crescent is delivering boxes of food to the Rohingya, according to Turkish Red Crescent officials briefed Davutoğlu and Erdoğan about conditions at the camp.
“The Rohingyas from the camp are struggling with finding suitable accommodations and suffering from malnutrition.”
Later, Davutoğlu and Erdoğan headed to a Buddhist camp and distributed more aid packages there as well.
The Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu is taking along medical supplies and donations collected by Turkey’s Red Crescent to deliver to “probably more than 50,000 Muslims and 20,000 Buddhists” who have been displaced from their homes by the conflict, according to Today Zaman newspaper from Turkish.
“Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu left on August 8 to observe the situation in Myanmar, from where he said Turkey was receiving “conflicting information” regarding deadly religious violence.”
“The administration (in Myanmar) says the deaths are around a hundred... but the Muslim leaders in Rakhine, with whom we have been in contact, say the deaths reach thousands,” Davutoglu told reporters in Ankara before his departure.
The Hurriyet Daily News said Erdogan’s wife, Emine Erdogan, and daughter, Sumeyye Erdogan, will accompany Davutoglu and his wife Sare Davutoglu to Burma.
“To raise awareness of the plight of Muslims in Burma, Turkey’s Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, his wife and daughter will accompany Davutoglu,” according to Today Zaman

The Rohingya community from Maungdaw are waiting to welcome the Turkey’s Prime Minister and its delegations, but, their wish are not come true as the Turkey delegations didn’t visit Maungdaw and Buthidaung where most of the Rohingya are suffering shortage of foods and fearing of their risk of lives. The Rohingyas in Maungdaw are not under refugee camps , but they are IDPs in their own, said a school teacher from Maungdaw.
“After hearing the news of Akyab about Rohingya community, the Rohingyas from Maungdaw become very glad as the Rohingya can talk openly to the delegations and may be exposed their lives since June, 2012.”
