Chittagong, Bangladesh : Outgoing Burma ’s Ambassador U Min Lwin yesterday said the solution to maritime boundary dispute between Bangladesh and Burma is a win-win situation for both the countries.
“The people of both the countries are happy as the maritime boundary dispute between Myanmar and Bangladesh has been resolved with the judgment given by the International Tribunal for Law of the Sea (ITLOS),” Lwin said when he met President Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban.
During the meeting, the Burma’s envoy said the relations between the two countries have improved greatly after the recent visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Burma.
He said the President of Burma Thein Sein would visit Bangladesh in June next.
Welcoming the Ambassador to Bangabhaban, President Zillur said Burma is the neighboring close friend of Bangladesh and the two countries are enjoying excellent relations.
The President highly appreciated the government and the people of Burma for establishing democracy in the country.
Zillur Rahman also emphasized increasing trade and commerce among the countries of the region by developing rail and road connectivity among Bangladesh, Burma and China . “Road and rail links are very much essential for the countries for boosting trade and commerce,” he said.
President Zillur thanked the outgoing envoy and wished his success in his next assignment.
The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) had delivered its judgment over the dispute regarding delimitation of the maritime boundary between Bangladesh and Burma in the Bay of Bengal on March 14 in favor of Bangladesh at its main courtroom in Hamburg , Germany at 5:00pm.
“We’ve got more than what we wanted,” Foreign Minister Dipu Moni who is the representative or agent of Bangladesh for the case No.16.
