Teknaf, Bangladesh: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) pushed back 1768 - Rohingya in 2011. They were arrested from along the Burma-Bangladesh border while entering Bangladesh in illegal way, according to BGB official from Teknaf.
“Only 18 - Rohingya were sent to police station after filing case with border cross Act against them.”
Besides, the BGB personnel of Teknaf 42 Battalion seized 185,832 Yaba tablets worth about Taka 55.7496 million, local and local made liquor 1,084 liter, 6,559 bottles of foreign wine worth about Taka 5.14 million and other contraband goods from Burma- Bangladesh border in last year.
Moreover, BGB personnel also seized onion, garlic, diesel, palm oil, Soybean oil, wheat and flour, potato, Sonasur , loti, biscuits, various kinds of cloth and clothes while being smuggled to Burma and cattle including goats and other contraband goods while being smuggling to Bangladesh, worth about Taka 93.433 million.
The major Shamsuzzaman Mohamed Ariful Islam, the operation commander of BGB 42 Battalion of Teknaf said, “If the local people cooperate with us, the smuggling of goods and the infiltration of Rohingya people to Bangladesh will be stopped.”
“They hope this year in 2012; they will be able to conduct more operations to those of last year.”
“Last year, they were able to arrest 298 people regarding the smuggling and filed cases against them.”
“If the political weather is favorable to Rohingya community, the infiltration of Rohingya people to Bangladesh will be stopped, otherwise it will be continued, said a Bangladeshi trader from Teknaf.
