Kutupalong, Cox's Bazar: Rohingya refugee teachers are not getting their salary for 3 months in Bangladesh refugees camp said a refugee teacher, requested not to named from Kutupalong Camp.
Bangla curriculum, namely non formal and formal was introduced in the refugees camp last 2008 under the implemented partner PHALS by the support of UNICEF. At the time 8 local teachers ( now 43 ), for Kutupalong, were recruited to support Bangla subject only and all the others teachers were Rohingya ( who worked in former Burmese curriculum running time). PHALS fixed 2500 tk salary for local teachers and 1500 tk for Rohingya teachers and committed to increase 10% each year. After 4/5 months PHALS had gone from the camp for their internal problem. Than education programme was handed over to Research Training and Management International( Rtm I). For extending 1 and half hours 350tk is added to salary for all.
As this all the teacher including Rohingya got 10% and yearly bonus on 2009. And on 2010 all teachers got only 10% increment. Suddenly this year Rohingya refugee teachers are facing racial discrimination to get salary. Local teachers are given 7% increment but not to Rohingya teacher. Shaiful Alam, Project Co-ordinator(PC) said that even he does not know why this sorts of discrimination is going on upon Rohingya teachers. But others refugee workers who works others programme get 10% increment and yearly bonus.
One of the school refugee teacher requested not to name said that when strike or demonstration broke out in Bangladesh local teachers do not come to school but we have to take class, we prepare student data sheet, we take more class than local as we have to take social, science, religion, math and so on except our related subjects most of time, we make home visit when some student face any crisis and most of us have more experience to take classes and others activities we have to do at schools. But we are deprived from the said opportunity and facing racial discrimination even staying under the NGOs who are specially for human rights.

It is a great sorrowfully matter that even nobody from any NGO staff sitting with the Rohingya teachers to answer properly why they are not getting such increment like local teachers as before. Though 3 months have passed no proper answer is given by any authority. So Rohingya teachers are not taking their salary requesting to treat like local teachers and demanding to sit with authority who will give them proper answer for the problems. But not vain.
