Rohingya call “The Rohingya global day of action”

Chittagong, Bangladesh: Rohingya living in exile called all Rohingya to join “The Rohingya global day of action” on 15th of September, according to invitation letters of Burmese Rohingya organization UK (BROUK) and Burmese Rohingya Association in Japan (BRAJ).
“We are calling to join “The Rohingya global day of action” on Burmese military regime to restore Rohingya ethnic rights and citizenship rights,” the letter mentioned.
“We are calling “The Rohingya global day of action” after accusing the Muslim Arakanese Rohingya as Bangladeshis/illegal immigrants/non-nationals by U Khin Yi, the Minister of Immigration and Population and mentioned the particularly critical of the Muslims’/Rohingyas’ common religion, culture, appearance and language with the people of Bangladesh,” said Tun Khin, the president of BROUK.
“U Khin Yi remarked while the Rohingya MPs raised in the Naypyaydaw parliament to redress the issues and problems being faced by the Muslims of northern Arakan/ Arakanese Rohingyas, such as restrictions on their freedom of movement, marriage, religious, education and serious situation of grave human rights violations on 29th August and 1st September 2011.”
“Burma is an ethnically diverse country. Not only the Rohingya, all ethnic peoples living along all the Burma borders have common religion, culture, appearance and language with the peoples living in the adjacent countries. Despite this the minister made the Rohingyas special target for being Muslims in line with its de-Muslimization policy following the footsteps of notorious dictators Ne Win and Thant Shwe,” according to Zaw Min Htut, the president of BRAJ.
“This is a Muslim phobia which reflects the racism and racial discrimination of the ruling civilianized military regime against the peaceful living ethnic Rohingyas, who have been living in Arakan from time immemorial.  It also reveals that the USDP regime has no intention for political and democratic changes in the country and affirms its systematic policy to annihilate the remaining Rohingya population from their ancestral homeland of Arakan. Mention may be made that about 1.5 million Rohingyas are already in Diasporas fleeing persecution in Burma.”
We are staging a peaceful demonstration in front of the Burmese embassy in London and Tokyo on September 15 as a schedule, and all Rohingya and well-wishers are cordially invited to come and show your solidarity with us, the letter added.
“I personally want all Rohingya to do something on that day, anything, it doesn’t matter what, just to show we all are together in unity for our freedom and justice. Whatever the case, let’s work together to get cured our long-term unhealed wound. Where is the medicines, where is the solutions? No idea! But we want it, that’s why we have to work on it, no matter what. Let’s raise our one voice louder and louder, “We want our citizenship rights and ethnic rights, right now ............ right now.” “We want our freedom and justice". Come on Brother let’s get our act together!!!,” said Yasmine Ara, Information Secretary, BROUK.
“Indeed, our organization is not in position to join or to organize demonstration in Malaysia as high level authorities are watching our activities and even ordered for ....... As everyone knows, we don't have legal status or legal power in Malaysia but may be able for those who are closely working with authorities of different states/quarters, are the only inherent of the cause,” said Mohammad Sadek, Program Coordinator, Rohingya Arakanese Refugee Committee (RARC), Malaysia.
“I promise that I will go for hunger-strike myself on that day for my people, but I am not sure I can gather anyone being for work-day,” said Abdul Rouf (A R Arakani).
“It is a good action, in my view it is better if we use “The Rohingya global day of resistance” in the name of “The Rohingya global day of action.” The situation is not favorable to organize demonstration in Bangladesh,” according to Habibul Rahaman, vice president, Arakan Rohingya National Organization (ARNO).
“Thanks for organizing the event and good for Rohingya community. It is not right time to organize demonstration in Bangladesh. We urge all Rohingya community to join the event on September 15 to show our solidarity, said Ko Ko Linn, consul member, Arakan Rohingya Union (ARU).
“The event is very encouraging and right step for Arakanese Rohingya community and all the Arakanese Rohingya Organizations’ support and participation will strengthen Arakanese Rohingya movement.  It will be more effective if ARU organize this kind of events, but due to false representatives, ARU become weaker and disorganize for effective actions in future. ARU need serious reform, said Salim Ullah, central committee member, ARNO.
“I have no right to give comment on behalf of ARU, you may ask our Director General,” said Nurul Islam, Media Coordinator, ARU when Kaladan Press Network (KPN) asked for comment about the forthcoming Arakanese Rohingya event “The Rohingya global day of action.”

American Buddhists Promote 969 Movement With Website

Irrawaddy News: July 9, 2013 A group of American Buddhists has launched an English-language website promoting the 969 movement, in response to negative media surrounding the ultra-nationalist Buddhist campaign in Burma. The website aims to dispel “myths” about the movement, with a letter from nationalist monk Wirathu to a Time magazine reporter whose article about 969 was banned in Burma.  “We’re not officially endorsed by Ven Wirathu at this time but will send a delegation to his monastery soon,” a spokesperson for the site said via email, adding that the group would create a nonprofit to coordinate “969 activities worldwide in response to religious oppression.”
