Maungdaw, Arakan State: A truck of GE army killed a big cow of Rohingya on the road and took away to their headquarters of Maungdaw north for their food, on December 2, morning, Maung Nu ( not real name), a close relative of the victim said.
The big cow was killed by the truck No.14 of GE army while crossing the road. There was no car on the road because of rural area so that there was no reason to make an accident with the cow. It was a deliberate attack behind the cow as they need red meat without paying money, said an eyewitness of the accident preferring not to be named for security reason.
The owner of the cow is a poor man, if he sells it at the open market, he will get Kyats 500,000. As for him, he has lost a lot of money, the relative continued.
Earlier, Nasaka (Burma’s border security force, police, Hluntin and army also looted many cattle from Rohingya villagers last year. There is no security of Rohingyas’ life and properties in Arakan State.
Being informed, the bull owner Taher went to the GE headquarters of Kawar Bill to get information of his cow, but he was arrested and detained there by saying that: ‘who does give you permission to breed cattle?’, according to a man who is very close friend to the victim.
“The cow owner is detained in GE army headquarters of Kawar Bill, only because he goes there to get information of his cow. This means, ‘they think that Rohingyas are not human beings, they are animals because they can do as they like or want against the Rohingya community,” said a local elder on condition of anonymity.
The GE army (Engineer Battalion of construction) came to Maungdaw Township from Buthidaung Township in 2009 after many boat people had been arrested in Thailand and towed to the sea--- with little food, water and without engine and paddle. The GE army is from LIB No. 552 of Taung Bazar of Buthidaung. They came to Maungdaw for construction of barbed wire at Burma-Bangladesh border.
