Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar are kept under watch by
Bangladeshi security officials in Teknaf on June 18, 2012.
Teknaf, Bangladesh: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)
arrested 42-Rohingya from different points of Burma-Bangladesh border and
pushed back to Burma on March 29, according to BGB official. “42 Rohingyas were arrested from Burma-Bangladesh
border points by BGB after being conducted operation while they were crossing
border secretly.”
Among the arrestees, 24 males, 10 women including 8
children, they were arrested from the various points of border —Taungbro,
Gumdum, Balukhali, Palongkhali– under the Cox’s Bazar district, according to an
aide of BGB.
The arrestees are from Maungdaw and Buthidaung
Townships of Arakan State, Burma.
They crossed the border to take shelter in Bangladesh
after crossing the Naff River because of acute of human rights violation
against them in Arakan State. Despite pressure of international community, the
Burmese pseudo- civilian government takes no heed and continues its plans and
programs against the Rohingya community, a said a trader from Maungdaw Town preferring
not to be named.
In Arakan State, Rohingyas are not being given
permission to go from one place to another and are confined in their villages.
They have no jobs, no money to support their family members. Now, they are
starving.
Commanding Officer of BGB-42 Battalion in Teknaf Lt
Col Jahid Hasan and Commanding officer of 17-Battalion in Cox’s Bazar Lt Col
Mohammad Khalequzzaman confirmed that the law enforcing authority pushed back
the arrested Rohingyas to Burma.
