Nasaka arrests 18 villagers, loots goods from market in Maungdaw


Maungdaw, Arakan State: Burma’s border security force (Nasaka in Burmese) arrested 18- Rohingya villager and looted goods from market on December 13-14, at night, according to a local leader who denied to be named.

“On that day, at around 8:00pm, a group of Nasaka from Naga Kura camp under the Nasaka area No. 5 went to the market nearby Kyetyoepyin (Kyariprang) village of Maundaw north while a group of shopkeepers were listening to a radio and listening songs in a shop. After entering the shop, the Nasaka indiscriminately beat them up severely and the shopkeepers became very angry, as retaliation, the shopkeepers also beat up the Nasaka personnel harshly.”

Afterwards, the Nasaka personnel returned to their camp and appraised the event to the commander. After half an hour, around 30 Nasaka personnel went again to the spot and surrounded the whole market and arrested the people whom they (Nasaka) met in the market. However, at that night, the Nasaka arrested 12 shopkeepers or villagers from the market, said one of the shopkeepers on condition of anonymity.

Besides, the Nasaka looted many goods from the market by breaking the shops, such as — diesel, petrol, edible oil, cigarettes, biscuits, soaps, sugar, medicine, powder milk, onion, garlic, pea and etc, the shopkeeper more added.

On December 14, the Nasaka again went to the village and arrested 6-villager from the village. As a result, villagers were fleeing from the village to avoid the arrest and torture of Nasaka personnel, said a local businessman.

All the arrestees have been detained at the Nasaka camp. The Nasaka threatened to the villagers that they have to arrest more than 100 villagers in upcoming. So the villages become terrified, the businessman added.

A village elder said, “The Nasaka creates problem between the Nasaka and Rohingya villagers to oppress and repress the Rohingya people.”

Another local leader said, “What would be the future of our Rohingya people.”

Iran Ready to Dispatch Medical Teams to Myanmar

TEHRAN (FNA)- Head of the Basij Organization of Iran's Medical Society Mohammad Rayeeszadeh voiced the society's readiness to dispatch medics, nurses and relief and rescue forces to help Myanmar's Muslims who are under the daily attacks of the majority in the Southeast Asian country. "The Basij (volunteer) organization of the Medical Society is prepared to dispatch emergency teams of physicians, nurses and rescue workers to Myanmar," Rayeeszadeh told FNA on Saturday.

2,600 tonnes of aid delivered to Myanmar Muslims

Khalifa Foundation has distributed urgent aid totalling 5,200 tonnes Gulf News  March 04, 2013  Burma: The Khalifa Bin Zayed Humanitarian Foundation (KZHF) has distributed another 2,600 tonnes of food aid to Myanmar Muslims, completing its third and last phase of the urgent aid totalling 5,200 tonnes of relief items among 850,000 beneficiaries. As per directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the assistance was purchased from the local markets of Myanmar in cooperation and coordination with the Embassy of Kuwait to be shipped by sea to “Rakhine (Arakan)” for distribution among the affectees there.
