Canada may soon become the latest Western nation to lift sanctions on Burma, after Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said Ottawa is planning to review its policy. “We’re prepared to review everything in terms of our Burma policy,”
Baird told the host of a CBC news program. “We’re prepared to look at the sanctions, we’re prepared to look at a whole host of other reforms.” He added that Canadian officials are still waiting to hear the views of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Baird made a landmark visit to Burma in March.
